We recognize that community and families are our strongest allies. With the help of families and Master Gardeners, we would teach our students the importance of giving back, showing compassion, and leading with a servant’s heart. This grant would provide the opportunity to teach our students skills that will last a life time. A garden, a collective project fosters responsibility, independence, and the knowledge to make healthy choices. Our hope is to build a large garden that will be cared for by 10 third grade classes. We hope to harvest enough vegetables to cook in classrooms, send food home, and share food with our local food pantry. We would also share fresh vegetables with our local senior center. Our students will learn the importance of nutrition and healthy eating, they will learn to be open minded and willing to try new foods, and learn to respect the land and its potential. Our students will also learn the value of community; that its boundaries expand beyond the classrooms.
